FEMA assistance deadline approaches for Central Texas flood survivors

Central Texas (KXAN) – Nearly two months after Independence Day floods killed at least 138 people, many still pick up the pieces.

For Harry Sherwood, he destroyed everything he owned almost.

He said, “I am getting. I hope everyone will pass here, but I am sure that there are some people who still hurt me.”

On July 5, the flood waters rushed through Big Sandy Kreik behind the Sherwood house. It was evacuated at 2 am, when the water was already deep. He said he is lucky to be alive. 10 people died in the large Sandy Kreik area.

Sherwood said: “He was at home, everything, went. All furniture, computers and offices, and so on.” He said: “Everything has just ended.”

Sherwood had flood insurance and may be rebuilt once his home was demolished on September 13. However, he said it is painful to say goodbye to the place he lived for nearly 20 years, and many of them with his late wife.

Sherwood said: “It is sad. He must go.” Sherwood has gofundme to help him recover from floods.
