Fate of The Equalizer Still Not Revealed By CBS as Fans Want Season 6

While almost all of CBS’ series have either been renewed or canceled for the 2025-2026 broadcast season, one show still remains on the hook – The Equalizer. The network has been mum about whether or not the Queen Latifah-led drama series will get a season 6 or end with its current season 5. Many are hoping to have the answer soon as season 5 nears its end.

Fans have taken to social media to voice their concerns about the show not immediately getting renewed, especially in the comments section on the show’s Instagram.

“Renew season 6 plssss,” one person commented on the show’s official Instagram account underneath the most recent post, which happened to be a clip from season 5, episode 16, called “Sins of the Father.”

“Renew for season 6 already,” another person begged, while another said, “We need season 6.”

“Loved this episode! # Equalizer. I want a season six!!! On CBS,” another person said.

“Pls renew the equalizer for season 6,” another person said.

Still, there’s been no word on the fate of the series from the network just yet. It was, however, revealed that the season 5 finale would be titled “Decisions.”

The synopsis of the season 5 finale says, “While on a romantic getaway, McCall and Dante are abruptly ambushed by Salazar and his army. Meanwhile, Aunt Vi finally decides to take the next step in her relationship with Captain Curtis, and Dee meets with her favorite author who may be able to help her get into her dream university.”

The season 5 finale of The Equalizer, the 18th episode of the season, will air on May 4.

Other CBS series like Tracker, Fire Country, Watson, Matlock, Elsbeth, NCIS and George & Mandy’s First Marriage all received renewals.

“This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers,” said Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, in a statement in February. “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”

Additionally, a singing competition called The Road and new seasons of Survivor and The Amazing Race are in the works, much to the delight of reality TV fans.

However, the news wasn’t all happy for some of the network’s most beloved scripted shows. While The Neighborhood was renewed, it was announced that season 8 would be the show’s last.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at THE NEIGHBORHOOD led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” said Reisenbach. “THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

Shows like Poppa’s House, The Summit and the FBI spinoffs FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted were all canceled. Though Blue Bloods came to an end with season 14 in December 2024, an offshoot series was greenlit for the 2025-2026 broadcast season called Boston Blue. A Fire Country spinoff called Sheriff Country was also ordered.
