Fatal multi-vehicle crash involving motorcycle shuts down 405 Freeway in Sawtelle

The lanes heading south of the 405 Highway in Los Angeles in Los Angeles were closed for hours on Sunday morning after a multiple compound accident left one person and several others were injured.

The accident occurred at about 3 in the morning near Santa Monica Street, before exchange of highway 10. According to the investigators, it shared at least four vehicles and motorcycles.

Initial reports indicate that the motorcycle driver is the person who was killed, although officials have not yet confirmed their identity.

After collision, the victim’s body seemed to remain on the way, with reports indicating that it may have been hit by other passers -by. Two additional people were treated at the scene due to injuries.

Omar Lewis from KTLA reported that CHP and LAPD investigators remained at the scene of the accident, as the crews wiped the wreckage scattered through multiple corridors.

A video of the scene showed distorted vehicles, the emergency respondents around the wreckage, and the investigators who documented the accident.

Witnesses described the chaotic moments while smoke rose from the highway and drove drivers in confusion.

One of the witnesses told KTLA: “I saw all this smoke and bang, and I thought I saw a body,” one of the witnesses told KTLA. “I immediately withdrew to see if someone was in the car and noticed that there was a body on the highway.”

By Sunrise, the direct video showed that the south’s traffic was transferred from the highway and on Santa Monica Street, creating a large backup copy of the passengers early in the morning. The crews eventually began to remove the cones and reopen the corridors as soon as the crash site is cleared, although the traffic delays in the morning continued.

The corridors are reopened from 7:30 am on Sunday.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
