The world was taken by surprise when Norwegian Olympian Sturla Holm Lægreid gave a rather unusual post-win interview after securing a bronze medal at the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Following his victory, Lægreid made a shocking confession about cheating on his girlfriend, drawing a reaction from former WTA world No. 5 Eugenie Bouchard.
Lægreid, a Norwegian biathlete, won his first individual Olympic medal–a bronze–in this year’s Winter Olympics. He finished behind his compatriot Johan-Olav Botn, who claimed the gold medal, and France’s Éric Perrot, who took home the silver.

In the post-win interview after winning the bronze in the men’s individual biathlon event, Lægreid disclosed that he had cheated on his girlfriend, whose name he chose not to reveal. He described his actions as the “biggest mistake” of his life.
The 28-year-old stated that by publicly admitting his mistakes and “committing social suicide,” he hopes to show his love for her.
“Half a year ago, I met the love of my life, the world’s most beautiful, finest person. And three months ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life and cheated on her. I hope that committing social suicide [like this] might show her how much I love her,” Lægreid said.
Lægreid stated that he “regrets” what he has done and is hoping that after his confession, his girlfriend will find it in her heart to forgive him.
“I accept the consequences of what I’ve done. I regret it with all my heart. My only path to the finish line is to tell her everything and put it all on the table, and hope that she’ll still love me,” he added.
Reacting to Lægreid’s revelation, Bouchard took to social media to express her shock over the situation and questioned whether the Norwegian’s girlfriend would forgive him and take him back.
“The big question re the Olympian who confessed to cheating on his gf… IS SHE TAKING HIM BACK???” Bouchard posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
On the tennis side of things, Bouchard, who turned professional in 2009, announced her retirement from the sport in July 2025. She wrapped up her career after competing in her home tournament, the 2025 Canadian Open.
Despite retiring from tennis, Bouchard remains active in pickleball. She made her professional pickleball debut in January 2024 by joining the Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour. Looking ahead, she is scheduled to participate in the Pickleball Slam 4, an exhibition event.
The Pickleball Slam 4 will take place on April 15, 2026, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The tournament will feature a $1 million prize purse. Along with Bouchard, the event will include professional pickleball player Anna Leigh Waters, tennis legend Andre Agassi, and James Blake.
