Errol Musk, the 79-year-old father of tech billionaire Elon Musk, is facing serious accusations of sexual abuse from five of his children and stepchildren. The allegations, detailed in a new report by The New York Times, span decades and include claims of inappropriate touching and other predatory behavior. The revelations shed new light on the tumultuous and estranged relationship between Elon Musk and his father.
According to the Times investigation, which cites personal letters, emails, court records, and interviews with family members, the accusations against Errol Musk date back to 1993. The earliest allegation reportedly involves a four-year-old stepdaughter who told relatives that he had touched her at their family home. A decade later, the same stepdaughter claimed she found him sniffing her dirty underwear. The report also details accusations of abuse from two of his daughters and a stepson.
The accusations have led to three separate law enforcement investigations over the years. However, two of these inquiries were closed without action, and the status of the third remains unclear. In response to the allegations, Errol Musk has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. In a statement to the Times, he called the claims “nonsense” and “false,” and suggested that the family members making the accusations were being manipulated in an attempt to extort his son, Elon.
The strained relationship between the elder Musk and his famous son has been a matter of public record, though Elon has rarely spoken about it in detail. In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, Elon Musk stated that his father had done “almost every evil thing you could possibly think of.”
The new report suggests that these long-held tensions are rooted in the abuse allegedly suffered by his siblings and step-siblings. Despite their difficult history, the report indicates that Elon Musk has sometimes taken action to help family members who have reached out to him regarding their father.
