Driver connected to deadly I-35 crash faces multi-count indictment, court docs says

Austin-The truck driver is accused of killing at least five people and wounding 11 others in a deadly accumulation accident of 18 cars now faces multiple new indictment.

According to the court documents given by the KXan lawyer by the Solomun Weldekel-Araaya lawyer, he faces five unintentional murder charges, along with 17 other strict assaults.

The indictment was submitted to the office of Travis Province on Monday.

The accident, which included more than ten other vehicles, occurred on March 13, 2025 on the 35th Highway near Barmer Road and Heard Lin.

Weldekeal-Araya was withdrawing a load of Amazon when the accident occurred.

Originally, he faced charges on the basis of the sober testing in the field including the wrongful killing of poisoning and assaulting poisoning.

Wildkeel-Araia’s lawyer told KXAN, “Poison Science report or alcohol in his system was not shown at the time of the accident.

“When the police tested Selmun and was not drunk, they said he was high. When they tested his blood for drugs, there was nothing there,” said Bristol Maires, a lawyer in Wildkeel-Araia. “Then they wereted taxpayers’ money to run more and more tests, just to reach empty. This is the indictment is a desperate attempt to criminalize a tragic accident.”
