Two cats are safe and recovering with their owners after Orange County Fire Authority crews extricated them from a burning apartment in Santa Ana last week.
The fire, which broke out on October 22, prompted a quick response from OCFA, as body camera footage showed firefighters arriving and quickly deploying hose lines to contain the flames and searching the apartment for people and pets.
Inside, firefighters found two cats, one orange and the other black, and safely removed them from the smoke-filled apartment while they were meowing in confusion.
No human casualties were reported, while crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other homes.
Dramatic video that was Shared on social mediaOfficials said this is an example of the urgency and technical training demonstrated by well-trained firefighters.

“Their quick actions not only saved the family’s pets, but also prevented the fire from spreading further and damaging additional units,” the department said in a statement.
The department also reminded residents to take steps to reduce the risk of fires at home, including not leaving food unattended while cooking, keeping flammable objects at least three feet away from heat sources, and testing smoke alarms regularly.
They also encourage families to create and practice a home escape plan.
OCFA officials said Friday that the cats were “doing well.”
