It’s been a rough start to the 2025 season for the Miami Dolphins. Through four weeks, they hold a 1-3 record. To add to the struggles, the team lost its top receiver, Tyreek Hill, who suffered a devastating leg injury in Miami’s win over the New York Jets on Monday night.
While the Dolphins did notch their first win of the year in Week 4, one analyst believes that with Hill’s injury, the team will ultimately decide to part ways with head coach Mike McDaniel.
Analyst Predicts The Dolphins Firing Mike McDaniel Post-Tyreek Hill Injury
Things can’t get much worse for the Dolphins this season. Miami has looked like one of the worst teams in the league and an overall dysfunctional organization.
Through four weeks, their offense has been mediocre at best, ranking 15th in the league according to PFSN’s OFFi metric, while their defense has been truly abysmal, ranking 31st in the NFL according to PFSN’s DEFi metric.
After the team’s 0-3 start, rumors about McDaniel being on the hot seat had already surfaced. While the Dolphins got a win on Monday, their offense will undoubtedly take a hit without Hill, who suffered an ACL tear and a dislocated knee.
On ESPN’s “First Take,” Chris Canty, a former NFL defensive end, explained that in the wake of Hill’s injury, and with McDaniel already entering the year as a candidate to be fired, his tenure in Miami is likely ending.
“When you ask me, big picture, what does this mean for the Miami Dolphins? It means that their head coach and general manager are probably going to get fired,” Canty said. “Coming into this season, Mike McDaniel had the third-shortest odds of any coach to be fired first, and I have seen nothing through the first four weeks to change that for me.”
They’re harsh words, but Canty isn’t wrong. Hill had been a bright spot on an otherwise struggling Miami offense this season, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards while posting a PFSN WRi grade of 87.6, the fourth-best among all NFL wideouts.
Losing a player of Hill’s caliber will only add to Miami’s offensive struggles, and with their defense among the league’s worst, things are likely to go downhill fast for McDaniel.
Miami’s schedule doesn’t make things any easier. After facing the Panthers in Week 6, they have a tough stretch ahead with matchups against the Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Commanders before Thanksgiving.
There’s still a chance that McDaniel can turn the season around and save his job, but given the 1-3 start, Hill’s injury, and the upcoming schedule, it doesn’t look great for the Dolphins’ head coach.
