Denver (Kdvr– The Denver Museum of Nature and Science revealed plans to renew and expand the gemstone and minerals hall.
The renovated hall will be called the Dea Family Gems and Minerals and will be 50 % larger than the current repetition, according to the museum, who said it is expected that the project will start in early 2026 and reopen the hall in 2027.
The hall, originally created in 1978, is in appreciation of the donation of the project presented by Cathy and Peter Dia, DMNS supporters long ago.
DMNS said it has reached 78 % of the fundraising goal for a project worth $ 30 million, which includes contributions from a number of supporters and donors, along with the “transformational” gift from the DeA family.
“The legacy of the drug control administration is not only in the halls they helped, but also in the hearts and minds of everyone who visits them,” George Sparks, President and CEO of DMNS, said in a statement.
New features coming to the museum
The museum said that the renovated area will include many “interactive” and “inspiring” areas, such as “Mine Experience”, where visitors can pass a modern mine to look at the first person, and the story stations that will present accounts from the first person of mines, scientists and the environment.

Other features, among other things, will include the experience of a colorful room where visitors can see metals that change under the ultraviolet light, and an “underground adventure” where guests will be able to enter “realistic cave environments”.
“From touching minerals throughout the exhibition and examining them closely or glowing under the ultraviolet light to learn about making jewelry and discover how the same minerals are estimated differently through cultures, there is something here to inspire everyone,” Locke Fernandez said in a statement.
