Karen Ormes is one of the owners of the store, and spoke with Talya Cunningham from Fox31 about the shooting, which occurred 20 minutes from her backyard. Orments said that she wanted to defend her community, and felt this as if it was one way to do this.
Orments also has a personal relationship with Matthew – her best friend works with Matthew’s mother, who has not left his hospital in the shooting 15 days ago.

Orums also said that Matthew saved lives by trying to warn other students from the shooter, describing him as a hero.
“He is a magical and warm young man who deserves all our care,” said Ormeam. “It seemed to be the right thing to do. We are big in society. We are big in supporting each other. I felt correctly.
Orments do everything in its power to help and calls on society to help this week.
She says Matthew’s mother is a single mother with other children and that she is not working now, and instead she chose to stay next to her son in the hospital.
