Deion Sanders Gets Brutally Honest About Shedeur Sanders Rejecting Chance To Become Lamar Jackson’s Backup

The latest episode of New Heights features an appearance from the one and only Deion Sanders. Jason and Travis Kelce asked the hard-hitting questions, including why Shedeur Sanders reportedly refused to be drafted to the Baltimore Ravens. These are rumors that Shedeur has commented on himself, though Deion provided a different perspective on the situation.

Deion Sanders Discusses Shedeur’s Decision to Not Be Drafted to the Baltimore Ravens

Colorado’s head coach has his work cut out for him with the Buffaloes, but he made sure to cut out time to discuss all things Shedeur on the New Heights podcast.

Sanders, who played in the league from 1989 to 2005, had little experience with the Ravens. Months after the draft, reports emerged that Sanders did not want to be selected by Baltimore in the fifth round.

“I played for Baltimore, so me and Ozzie are cool,” Deion said. “We understood that whole conversation, and he wanted to talk to Sheduer as well as he wanted to talk to me.”

Deion continued, “And I put Shedeur on the phone, and I don’t want to say how it went, but how in the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking ‘Why in the world would I go back up Lamar for 10 more years?’ I’ve never sat on the bench and said, ‘Well, I learned a lot today.’”

His closing remarks got a huge laugh out of the Kelce brothers, who fully understood what the 1989 No. 5 overall pick was saying. While Sanders has yet to see the field in Cleveland, his chances of playing are much higher than they would be in Baltimore. Injuries can happen, and they’re taking down QBs left and right this year, but Deion knows that Baltimore has their franchise quarterback while Cleveland doesn’t.

They may have thought they did in Deshaun Watson, but he proved them otherwise. Despite all the guaranteed money he’s getting, Watson has done nothing to help the Browns. Instead, they used two late draft picks to bring Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur to the team.

Gabriel may be inching closer to his first start, though Joe Flacco will take the credit for Cleveland’s Week 3 win over Green Bay.

Cleveland, now 1-2, still has a decision to make moving forward. Depending on how these next few weeks go, they may decide to ride with Gabriel instead of the veteran. Either way, Shedeur is still lower on the depth chart and likely won’t start this year, but never say never.
