(Crohn) – A dead whale and a decomposing gray whale on the beach in Black Sands Beach in Marin Province on March 30.

This sacrifice of the dead whale is the first to wash to the beach in the Gulf region in 2025, according to the Navy Mamrums Center.

Our scholars, along with the partners [at the California Academy of Sciences] The Marine Mammals Center wrote on social media:

The whale sacrifice was seen for the first time floating near the island of Alcatraz on March 29 and washed on the beach on the Black Sands Beach the next afternoon. Biologists decided that the dead whale was underweight. However, the cause of death was not determined at this time.

On January 19, the gray -gray whale sacrifice was washed on the beach in Osu Flako in San Louis Obspas Province. A few weeks later, the body of the male sperm whale was washed on the beach of San Louis Obebas. The cause of death for both whales is not specified.

The marine mammal center encourages anyone watching a whale in the Gulf of San Francisco or the areas surrounding the reporting of its viewing using the free whale alert application.
