David Corenswet, who’s stepping into the iconic role of Superman in James Gunn‘s upcoming film, recently spilled some tea about his experience with the famous superhero suit.
Chatting with People magazine, Corenswet revealed that getting in and out of the Superman suit isn’t as simple as you might think, especially when nature calls – there’s no convenient single zipper for bathroom breaks.
“There are lots of zippers, but there’s no single zipper that allows me to go to the bathroom, which you would think would be quite straightforward,” Corenswet told People magazine. The team looked into making it more bathroom-friendly, but the cost made them think twice.
Despite these suit struggles, Corenswet gave major props to his dresser, Scotty, who was his MVP throughout filming. Scotty was the real hero behind the scenes, helping Corenswet navigate the suit situation like a pro.
“He would make excuses for me if I needed, and we got very good together at getting in and out of the suit, so he would do it quite quickly, and I could take breaks if I needed to over the course of a day,” Corenswet shared with People magazine.
When asked about his first Superman suit fitting, Corenswet admitted it was somewhat of a letdown, as the suit was still in pieces during the try-on.
To transform into the Man of Steel, Corenswet packed on about 40 pounds of muscle, which made squeezing into that tailored suit even more interesting.
He confessed to feeling a bit claustrophobic during his first full suit-up, with pressure points hitting him all at once.
Corenswet clicked with his co-star Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, while working on their characters’ relationship. “I think James felt like the relationship between Clark and Lois was integral to the heart of the story and the success of the movie, and so we spent a lot of time talking through those scenes and talking about our characters and our relationship,” Corenswet said.
Superman lands in theaters on July 11.
