Amid a long discussion about whether the Mindez brothers should be released from decades after being convicted of killing their parents, senior law enforcement officials in Los Angeles Province express a great opinion on the case.
in A statement issued on Wednesday morningNathan Hoshman, Los Angeles County’s lawyer, said, frankly, he believed that Lille and Eric Mendez “did not completely accept the horrific murders of their parents.”
“instead of, [they continue] In order to strengthen a false account of self -defense that the jury rejected decades ago, “Hashman Bayan says:” We have been constantly opposed to their release because they did not show a complete vision in their crimes or showed that they were fully rehabilitated, and therefore we continue to risk society. “
According to Hashman, the attractiveness of “brotherhood” murders cannot be reduced without undermining confidence in the judicial system.
The same principle applies to [the Menendez brothers’ case]Hoshman said.
DA also pointed out that documentaries and modern films “drew renewed attention” to the issue, but he expressed that anything that does not involve “facts and law” will not be considered.
“This issue must be seen, like all cases – especially the cases that capture the audience – with a critical eye.” My personal opinions are not related. What matters and what my office directs is the evidence, the facts of the case, and the application of the law. “
Lille and Eric Menendes fired the fire and killed their parents, Jose and Kitty Mainndes, at their palace in Beverly Hills in August of 1989, when they were 21 and 18 years in a row. They were accused of first-degree death and tried separately, as both jurors arrived at a dead end in 1994. The re-trial began the following year-with only one jury-and the brothers were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of conditional release in July 1996.
Decades were passed before the brothers’ family asked the courts in 2023 to reconsider the condemnation in light of the new evidence and allegations against Jose Menendes, who was an executive official in RCA records, which included a letter written by Eric, who killed his father as a child. Another message from a former member of the Band Menudo band, who was also presented by Jose, of raping him when he was 14 years old.
In September 2024, the Netflix series was released from nine episodes, “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Mennedez Story”, which sparked their public interest in the case. In October, the then -province’s lawyer, George Jaskoun, announced that his office would re -evaluate new evidence before he publicly doubled his support for resentment. Both sides of the family held a press conference that is begging for their release shortly after.
However, the Gascón advertisement was canceled the next month when he lost an attempt to re -election to Nathan Hoshman, who again expressed his hesitation and refusal when it came to liberating the brothers.
“This is my approach, whether it is the Manendez issue or frankly, any case: you have to do hard work,” Hashman told KTLA on November 6, shortly after Gascón’s defeat. “In this case, you have to consider thousands of pages of secret prison files, you must review thousands of texts from trials from months for months, and you have to speak to prosecutors, law enforcement, defense lawyer … and victims’ families.”
“Only then you can be in a position that allows you to determine whether resentment is treatment in this position or whether what is required in discontent is the right demand,” continued. “I am not in this position now, but I can tell you if I have to make this call, I will do hard work to make the right decision.”

After assuming his post, Hashman publicly said that the courts should deny the brotherhood Ivory. Legal experts also pointed to other doubts to release the brothers, such as requesting compassion from the ruler – Newsom said previously that he would postpone the decision until Hochman reviews the evidence.
The discontent session of the brothers, who spent 35 years in prison, moved earlier this year despite Hochman’s attempts to stop it. At the hearing, the judge resented a life prison to a 50 -year prison sentence, which made Lael and Eric automatically, now 57 and 54, respectively, qualifying for the conditional release under the law of the young perpetrator in California since they committed the crime under the age of 26.
The Conduct State Highlighting Council still decides whether to be released from prison.
“I do not say that they should be released, it is not for me to decide that.” The Supreme Court Judge of Los Angeles Michael Jessek said when discontent was announced on May 13.
