Community honors Arvada firefighter who lost battle with cancer linked with service

Arvada, COLO. (KDVR) – The memorial continues to grow for a long -term Arvada firefighter.

A 61 -year -old retired firefighter has died on Friday, after a courageous battle with cancer.

“Looking at the relationship between his illness and his service injuries, his death was assigned to the death of duty-(Lodd-I) by Arvada Fire and Colorado Profesal Firefters (CPFF),”

Jacofita was a 33 -year -old firefighter. He joined Arvada Fire in 1988 as a volunteer firefighter, before his appointment as a full -time firefighter in 1999. He retired in 2021. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2023.

Cancer in firefighters is a well -known issue, as it was established in 2024 by the Disease Control Centers National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

“For many, many people were in our department, and he was a teacher, friend and real hero,” said Kirk Locke, the head of the Effada firefighter. “He was not just skilled firefighters and self -denial, but also a husband, father and sincere friend. Unfortunately, he serves his death as a tragic reminder of the connection between firefighting and cancer, and dangerous working conditions that firefighters enter non -selfishness.”

Jacovita leaves behind his wife, two daughters, three grandchildren, and several brothers.

The funeral ceremony was appointed on Friday, October 3, at 10 am in the Story Church, located in 14605 West 64th Avenue, Arvada. The service is open to the public.
