Commanders, and Texans Floated as Potential Landing Spots For 46-TD WR1 in 2025 NFL Draft

The 2025 NFL Draft is chock-full of receiving talent, and one of the best prospects is Emeka Egbuka out of Ohio State. The 6-1, 202-pound four-year player could have come out last year, but he chose to stay for his senior season. After a rather subpar junior year, he finished 2024 with 81 catches for 1,011 yards and 10 TD, prompting OSU quarterback Will Howard to sing Egbuka’s praises, saying he’s going to be “special” in the NFL.

He mainly works from the slot and is known as a good route runner. He’s not the most explosive player, but he’s excellent at ball-tracking and can adjust to where the ball is placed. He doesn’t really jump off the screen after the catch with explosive moves, but he’s tenacious and fights for extra yardage.

What are Egbuka’s Possible Landing Spots?

PFSN has two possible landing spots in mind for Egbuka: the Washington Commanders and the Houston Texans. Both teams need complementary wide receivers, and both have budding stars at quarterback.

Landing Spot 1: Washington Commanders

Imagine Jayden Daniels getting to have Scary Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel, and Egbuka to throw to. The Commanders already have the 6th-best offense according to Offense+, which includes a 48.5% pass success rate. They also scored 28.1 points per game, ranking 5th overall, and were 6th in red zone efficiency (63.4%).

Pair Daniels with a Hydra-like receiving group, and defenses will be forced to spend extra time trying to figure out how to contain them. Samuel’s versatility can put him anywhere on the board, McLaurin works wide, and Egbuka could create havoc from the slot. Good luck stopping that every down.

Landing Spot 2: Houston Texans

Houston’s offense took a step back last year, finishing 28th in Offense+. C.J. Stroud ranked 25th in pass success rate (40.8%), 13th in yards per completion (11.1), and 20th in TD/INT (1.7). It wasn’t quite a sophomore slump, but it wasn’t up to the heights of his rookie season. Making things worse, Tank Dell suffered a horrific knee injury late in the season. He will miss a good chunk of 2025, if not the entire season.

Nico Collins will be back, but Stephon Diggs is now in New England, leaving Christian Kirk, Braxton Berrios, and Justin Watson as Collins’ companions in the receiver room. This makes getting someone like Egbuka all the more important.

He’s effective on third down, has great hands, insane ball skills, and body control in the air. Wherever he goes, he’s going to be a starter by the early part of the season. The fact that he works in the slot means he can fit right in with a team that prefers three-wideout sets.

Whoever lands him will be getting one of the most pro-ready players in the draft.
