Cody Simpson Talks ‘1st Love’ Gigi Hadid, 1st Girlfriend Kylie Jenner – Jimmy Star’s World

Cody Simpson is looking back at his past relationships with Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Miley Cyrus.

The Australian singer, 29, reflected on his string of high-profile relationships during a Tuesday, March 10, appearance on the “We Need to Talk” podcast hosted by Paul C. Brunson.

Simpson described Hadid, 30, whom he dated from 2013 to 2015, as his “first love” while also sharing that Jenner, 28, was his first-ever girlfriend.

The singer said he met Jenner as a teenager at the red carpet premiere of one of the Twilight movies shortly after moving to Los Angeles from Australia. (They dated in 2011.)

A man in love! Cody Simpson‘s relationships have been a topic of conversation over the years as he navigates dating in the public eye. In 2013, Simpson was linked to Gigi Hadid after they met while working on the music video for his song “Surfboard.” The former couple dated on and off for two years […]

“I think I asked her for her number there. We exchanged numbers and started talking. It was young … I took her to the movies or something,” he said.

“We dated for about a year, and I think just bonded through being in these unique situations,” he said, noting that Jenner was also in the spotlight at a young age on E! reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. “It was nice to relate to somebody at that age in that world.”

After he split from Jenner, Simpson wooed Hadid with the promise of a starring role in a music video — although he admitted there was, in fact, no video in the works.

“She had just done her first billboard for Guess,” he said, sharing that he was around 16 and she was 18 at the time.

Simpson said he saw Hadid at the mall and a mutual friend later gave him the supermodel’s phone number.

“This is gonna sound so stupid, but I cold-called her,” he explained. “I said, ‘Hey, it’s Cody, I’m a musician. I’m doing this music video … I was calling to ask if you want to be in it.’ There was no music video. No plans for a video. Videos have all been shot.”

“I’m pretty sure I pitched her this whole concept that didn’t exist,” he continued. “She said, ‘Yeah, OK, sure,’ and I think that broke the ice. I started texting her and I’m like, ‘I don’t think the video’s going to be happening anymore, but do you wanna go out for food or whatever?’”

The romance between the couple blossomed from there. “She was my first love, man,” Simpson recalled. “Absolutely. We were together on and off for about two years. We started hanging out, and a couple of weeks later, she came on tour with me.”

Dating pro! Miley Cyrus has had her fair share of love throughout her life, including many high-profile relationships. Her relationship with her Last Song costar Liam Hemsworth made headlines as the pair dated on and off for 10 years. They tied the knot in December 2018 after getting engaged in May 2012. The pair split […]

Simpson said that he and Hadid were “supposed to be together when we were and learned things from each other that were obviously necessary to learn from each other at that age.”

Years later, Simpson entered a relationship with Cyrus, 33, when he was around 22. He said they first met when he was 18 and bonded over “rebelling from being in that teen pop stardom thing,” but it wasn’t until four years later that they reconnected — after Cyrus split from then-husband Liam Hemsworth — and became an item. (They dated from October 2019 to August 2020.)

“Again, it’s one of those things, we were very much meant to be together at that time,” Simpson said. “We were both sober and in a very different place from when we were friends back in the day. We were kind of exploring what the hell we’d just been through. I’ll always be grateful for that.”
