She expressed admiration for the U.S. men’s and women’s ice hockey teams, who earned gold at the Winter Olympics. On Instagram, Gauff posted “🫶🏾 (heart hands)” to symbolize support for the women’s victory and “🧹 🏒 🇺🇸 on ⬆️,” using a broom emoji, paired with hockey and U.S. flag emojis to celebrate the men’s achievement.

Reilly Opelka added a glimpse from the men’s team, expressing his awe and admiration, “Unreal scenes,” while Jessica Pegula shared a picture of Tage Thompson, who won gold with the team and is the center and alternate captain of the Buffalo Sabres, a team owned by her family.

The women’s ice hockey team defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, winning their third Olympic gold medal. They clinched their second gold medal at the 2018 PyeongChang Games and their first at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.

Whereas the men’s team also secured their gold with a win over Canada in overtime. They last won gold at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, and before that at the 1960 Squaw Valley Winter Olympics. From the women’s side, Megan Keller scored the decisive goal, while Jack Hughes secured the men’s gold in the 2-1 overtime victory.

Looking Back at Gauff’s Dubai Run

Gauff, the world No. 4, exited the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after losing her semifinal round. The American star entered the Dubai Tennis Championships, a WTA 1000 tournament held at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre, as the third seed and delivered impressive performances. She surpassed talents including Anna Kalinskaya, Elise Mertens, and young star Alexandra Eala in the quarterfinal, before falling to Elina Svitolina in the semifinal round.

Her clash against Svitolina showcased Gauff’s grit, as she won her longest tiebreaker in the second set at 15-13 before eventually losing the match, 6-4, 6-7 (13), 6-4, in three hours and three minutes. With this win, the Ukrainian star leads their head-to-head 3-2 and last picked up a victory when she defeated Gauff in the Australian Open quarterfinal round.

Despite the loss, Gauff remained in high spirits, sharing through her Instagram post’s caption, “left it all out there yesterday… didn’t get the result I wanted but man that was sm fun. battles like this make it worth it, a lot to learn from. thank you dubai!!.”
