Cinco de Mayo celebrates resilience and culture of Mexican people

CINCO De Mayo celebrations are taking place all over the United States with music, taco races, eclasty and colorful shows of Mexican culture – even if they are not always the most authentic.

Today, Monday this year, it means that the largest part of the celebrations occurred during the weekend. In California, a mandate with a large number of Mexican American population, there was a mixture of artistic performances, classic car shows, marches and dining truck shows.

In Austin, Texas, the events included an opportunity for children to take their photos with Disney’s “Encanto” music characters, which itself is a celebration of Mexican culture. A lunch meal was planned with speakers talking about the importance of Mexican and Mexican holidays in Austin on Monday.

Here is a look at the celebration and its roots:

What is celebrated today

Senko de Mayo marks the anniversary of the victory of the Mexican forces in 1862 over the French invading forces in the Battle of Bouella. The victory over the French forces equipped better and much larger was a huge emotional batch of Mexican soldiers led by General Ignacio Zaragaza.

In Mexico, historical re -legislation is held annually in the Central city of Bouella to celebrate the victory. Participants are wearing Mexican and French forces, Zacapoaxtlas – the original band and farms that helped the Mexican forces win.

In the United States, history is seen as a celebration of US -Mexican culture, and extends to 1800s in California. Celebrations usually include marches, street foods, mass parties, Mariashi competitions, folko, or folkloric ballet, with dancers wearing bright clothes and hair linked to glossy strips.

Activists and Latin scientists say that separation in the United States is enhanced by the blurring history of Cinco de Mayo, and the marketing that plays on stereotypes that include fake mustaches and giant Somberos. It is often mistaken on Mexican Independence Day, which is in September.

It is not a matter of tick and taku

For many Americans who suffer from or without Mexican origin, today is an excuse for a decrease in Tikila shots and error on the flakes of the tortilla, Nachos and Taco.

Sila Mota Casper, director of the Latinians in preserving heritage, said that the celebrations in the United States began as a means of Mexican Americans to preserve their cultural identity.

“Since then, we have seen a transformation into more marketing, goods and ridicule over the years,” said Motta Casper. “I think this has a great relationship to marketing products, especially Latin heritage.”

Motta Casper encourages people to get to know that day in history and its importance in Mexico.

Jacob Tronkuza, 49, said that he is celebrating Senko de Mayo in his family because he is proud of his Mexican origin.

“I try to make sure that children understand what is going on around him, which was the revolution, war, and battles that our ancestors fought,” said Trunocosa, who was born in East Los Angeles.

Others, like Andrea Ruiz, do not do it because her Mexican father has never done. But she noticed what she considered the paradox in wide celebrations.

“I think it’s funny Trump … and all his supporters want to take the Mexicans, and invoke them criminals, but then in Senko de Mayo, they want to go and eat taco sandwiches and drink Tikila,” 23 -year -old Ruiz said.

Political discourse

Since his return to the White House, Trump has continued to classify Mexican immigrants as criminals and gang members. He also sought to end the newly born citizenship, which was renamed to the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and ended the programs of the federal government diversity and stock and integration programs.

Trump Senko de Mayo admitted during his first term, as he posted on X, “Happy #CINCodemayo!” And “I love those with Spanish origin!” When he sat with a “taco bowl”. In the recent presidential elections, the data showed that more Spanish youth moved to the right and voted for Trump.

It is not clear whether the current administration will recognize Cinco de Mayo – which has set a vacation in Mexico but not in the United States. The Associated Press sent an email to the White House press office late on Friday to request the comment.

Dealing with Trump Migration is still a strength as it increases deportations and targets people who live in the United States without a legal status, according to a recent survey from the Associated Press Norms for Public Affairs Research. While Trump’s actions are still divided, there is less consensus that the Republican President has exceeded immigration from other issues.

CINCO De Mayo Parade said that Chicago said they had been canceled because the city has become a target for immigration agents.
