Chicago Med Season 11 to Bring Back This Fan-Favorite Star – Jimmy Star’s World

The upcoming Chicago Med Season 11 will include the return of a major cast member. The show was renewed for an eleventh season in May 2025, and following the conclusion of its 10th installment, which aired on May 21, 2025, fans have been eagerly looking forward to updates on the next season.

Nick Gehlfuss set to return as Dr. Will Halstead in Chicago Med Season 11

According to Deadline, Chicago Med veteran Nick Gehlfuss is set to appear as Dr. Will Halstead in Season 11 of the popular medical drama series. Gehlfuss was part of the show’s main cast in its first eight seasons (2015-2023).

He also portrayed the character in several episodes of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. At the time of this article’s composition, it is unclear how many episodes he will be part of in the upcoming chapter.

Gehlfuss last appeared in the final episode of Season 8. The viewers see him in Seattle. He reunites with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) and embraces the role of a father figure in the life of her son, Owen (Ari Morgan).

Notably, in May 2025, showrunner Allen MacDonald said in an interview with TVLine, “I intend to bring back another original cast member or two, like I did Sarah Reese, and that is in the works.”

Dr. Sarah Reese, portrayed by Rachel DiPillo, was part of the Chicago Med’s main cast in the first three seasons and also appeared in Season 4. As MacDonald indicated, the character returned in Season 10.

During a 2023 interview with Deadline, Gehlfuss stated that his potential return was part of the discussions on how Dr. Halstead was to leave the show in Season 8. He added, “I wanted that to be the case, but of course, I would have been okay with whatever the writers felt necessary for the story. So I’m glad that they preserve that possibility. They said outright, ‘You know, we’d be happy to have you come back whenever you want.’ And it’s really touching.”

Chicago Med Season 11 premieres on NBC on October 1, 2025.
