Clear your schedules and prepare yourselves for some TV watching! CBS has announced some promising spinoffs and offshoots of your favorite shows coming to the network’s lineup between 2025 and 2026. Closer shares a look at what new shows are in the works and teases series expansions for some of the most popular franchises.
‘Boston Blue’
Blue Bloods fans were thrilled when it was announced that the series was expanding with a new offshoot titled Boston Blue. The show will star Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role of Danny Reagan, New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan’s son. The show will air in the fall 2025, serving as an offshoot to Blue Bloods, which ended it’s 14-season run in December 2024.
“In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family,” the network shared in a February 2025 press release.
Donnie hinted that it’s likely possible that fans could see some Blue Bloods cast members joining Boston Blue.
“If anyone knows Danny Reagan, and if anyone knows me, I like surprises and The Reagan’s will always just be a phone call away,” he told PIX11 News in April 2025. “Danny Reagan likes to use his phone, so I imagine we will pay homage to Blue Bloods as much as we can and honor what Blue Bloods started and carry it forward, and I think have a lot of fun surprises for everybody.”
‘Sherriff Country’
Fire Country is also expanding the franchise with a spinoff titled Sheriff Country. The new show will star Morena Baccarin.
“Morena Baccarin stars as Sheriff Mickey Fox, and W. Earl Brown stars as Wes Fox, Mickey’s estranged father and Sharon’s stepfather who runs an illegal marijuana business, on SHERIFF COUNTRY, the upcoming spin-off that expands the world of FIRE COUNTRY. SHERIFF COUNTRY is set to premiere in the 2025-2026 TV season,” a press release from CBS revealed.
Fire Country was also renewed for season 4.
‘Crutch’
While one planned spinoff of The Neighborhood was axed, another one is moving forward. The spinoff called Crutch was greenlit.
“The series centers on its titular character, Francois ‘Frank’ Crutchfield (Tracy Morgan) – or ‘Crutch’ to those that know him well – a Harlem widower whose empty nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home. The series is produced by CBS Studios and is slated to begin production later this year,” a press release said in May 2024.
CBS announced that The Neighborhood was renewed for its eighth and final season.
“I’m excited to be expanding our The Neighborhood universe by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan,” Cedric The Entertainer said about the spinoff. “This new character is the close cousin to my character Calvin Butler, and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let’s just say there will be several comedic complications.”
