Since turning professional in 2018, Carlos Alcaraz has gained a significant fan following and fame. He recently opened up about how he handles this recognition and his desire to live like a “normal person.”
Last year, Alcaraz had one of his best seasons in tennis, winning a total of eight titles, including two Grand Slams. He claimed the French Open, US Open, Monte-Carlo Masters, Italian Open, Cincinnati Open, ABN AMRO Open, Queen’s Club Championships, and the Japan Open. By the end of the season, he was ranked world No. 1.
Carlos Alcaraz Makes His Feelings Known on Dealing With Fame and Being Recognized
Before the start of his 2026 season, Alcaraz spoke with former German tennis player Andrea Petkovic on the Tennis Channel. He was asked how he manages fame and being recognized on a daily basis.
In response, the six-time Grand Slam champion stated that he has gotten “used to” the fame and the recognition. However, he admitted that there are times when he wishes he could experience life without being recognized, like a normal person.
“Well, you get used to it, to be honest. Sometimes I think it’s everything. You really want what you don’t have. Sometimes I don’t want to be recognized, and I really want to walk around by myself and do whatever a normal person does. At the same time, it’s really good, my position. So I cannot complain at all. I really love what I do,” Alcaraz said.
Alcaraz expressed that he loves it when people stop him to say that he is an “inspiration” for their children and in their lives.
“I really love it when people stop me and tell me, I’m a really good inspiration for their kids, for their life. For me, it is an amazing feeling. We’re trying to help tennis as much as we can with Jannik [Sinner] and me. The matches we have played in the tournaments engage people who have probably never watched tennis before. For me, that’s a really good feeling. That’s what we are trying to do, and I’m just really happy that I’ve been able to do it,” he added.
Looking ahead, Alcaraz will begin his 2026 season at the Australian Open, scheduled to take place from January 12 to January 26, 2026, at Melbourne Park, with the main draw matches starting on January 18.
However, before the Grand Slam, the six-time Grand Slam champion will participate in the ‘Hyundai Card Super Match,’ an exhibition event which will be held at INSPIRE Arena in Korea on Saturday, January 10, 2025. There, he will compete against Sinner.
