Bucs Record Watch 2025: A Season Preview

A new Bucs season is almost upon us, and there is so much to look forward to week in and week out from Tampa Bay as the team looks to extend its NFC-leading playoff appearance streak to six seasons and win the NFC South for the fifth year in a row. At the same time, this is a Buccaneer team looking to push for more and get back to the NFC Championship Game and then the Super Bowl in pursuit of the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy.

The new season also provides an opportunity to reintroduce one of our weekly features on PewterReport.com: Bucs Record Watch. On a personal level, these articles are among my favorite to research and write, largely due to the fact that I was doing these prior to my time at Pewter Report, writing them weekly dating all the way back to 2018. Then, when I arrived at Pewter Report in 2022, I was able to keep it going each of the last three seasons.

Now, this season will be the eighth of Bucs Record Watch.

If you’re new, welcome. It’s as simple as this: Each week, I dive into the record books and highlight some franchise and NFL records and milestones on the line for the Bucs in the upcoming game. In this most recent era of Tampa Bay football, we’ve seen history on the regular, which has made this weekly feature even more fun to write.

Now, this edition of Bucs Record Watch is a bit different, as it’s not focusing so much on the records on the line when Tampa Bay heads to Atlanta for Week 1 next Sunday, Sept. 7 – that’ll come next week. Rather, this is more a look into where everything and everyone stands heading into the season. In other words, this is a state of the Bucs record book, at least as it pertains to the players on the 2025 roster.

Record Watch is back in 2025 for its eighth season.

Let’s go.

Bucs Record Watch: Where Things Stand Heading Into 2025

QB Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield enters 2025 inside the top-10 in the franchise record book for several quarterback categories. His 8,544 passing yards have him ninth all-time among, while his 69 passing touchdowns are good for seventh-most in Bucs history.

Mayfield is also ninth in both completions and passing attempts, with 771 and 1,136, respectively.

For the record, quarterback wins aren’t a real stat, but it’s fun to keep track of, right? With that said, Mayfield has 19 wins as Tampa Bay’s quarterback, which is the eighth-most in team history.

WR Mike Evans

As far as Bucs history goes, Mike Evans has owned the top spot in several categories for a long time now. He’s first in receptions (836), total points with (644), total touchdowns (106), receiving touchdowns (105), receiving yards (12,684) and yards from scrimmage (12,694). So, what record doesn’t Evans own?

His 168 games played are the seventh-most in franchise history, while his 167 starts is the fifth-most.

These days, most record talk around Evans is in relation to the NFL record book. He enters 2025 with the 24th-most receiving yards in league history at 12,684. His 836 receptions are good for 35th-most in NFL history, while his 105 receiving touchdowns are the ninth-most in league history.

And, of course, there’s the NFL record for most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. In Week 18 of the 2024 season, Evans tied Jerry Rice for that record of 11 straight seasons. Another 1,000-yard season in 2025 would give Evans the NFL record with 12.

WR Chris Godwin Jr.

As the second-best wide receiver in Bucs history, Chris Godwin Jr.’s name is all over the Bucs record book as well. He is second in franchise history with 579 receptions, while his 41 total touchdowns rank fourth.

His 39 receiving touchdowns are the second-most in team history, and his 7,266 receiving yards also have him No. 2 in that category. Godwin also enters this season with 7,340 yards from scrimmage, which is the fifth-most in Buccaneers history.

It remains to be seen when Godwin will take the field for the first time in 2025, but he enters his ninth NFL season with 111 games played, which is tied for the 30th-most in Bucs history.

DT Vita Vea

Vita Vea comes into his eighth season with the Bucs having played 95 games in his career, which is tied for the 52nd-most in team history.

Vea is top-10 all-time among Tampa Bay defenders in sacks, with 30.5 for his career.

ILB Lavonte David

Along with Mike Evans, Lavonte David is the other current Buccaneer who has his name all over the franchise’s record book. He enters 2025 third in team history with 198 games played. His 198 starts are also good for third-most of any Buc ever.

David has 13 interceptions, which is the 10th-most in franchise history. He also has three defensive touchdowns, which ties for fourth-most.

David won’t catch Derrick Brooks for the all-time franchise record in tackles, as Brooks finished with 2,198. But David’s 1,600 are good for second, and he’ll build on that in 2025.

With 39 career sacks, David is tied for sixth-most in franchise history. He’s also fifth in Bucs history with 70 passes defensed.

And by now, the longtime Tampa Bay captain is atop the franchise’s record book in forced fumbles with 31 and fumble recoveries with 19.

CB Jamel Dean

Jamel Dean ranks eighth in team history with 52 passes defensed.

CB Zyon McCollum

With 27 passes defensed, Zyon McCollum is tied for 17th-most in Bucs history.

FS Antoine Winfield Jr.

Antoine Winfield Jr.’s 30 passes defensed are the 13th-most in team history, and he’s tied for sixth in franchise history with 11 forced fumbles. His nine fumble recoveries are tied for fifth-most, plus he’s already second among Bucs defensive backs all-time with 17 sacks.

K Chase McLaughlin

It’s only been a couple of years for Chase McLaughlin in Tampa Bay, but he’s already up there with the best kickers in team history. His 264 total points are 10th-most in franchise history, while his 59 field goals are the seventh-most.

McLaughlin also has a .937 field goal percentage in his Bucs career, which is the current franchise-record for kickers with a minimum of 10 attempts.

Head Coach Todd Bowles

For as much criticism as Todd Bowles gets, his marks in the franchise’s record book are pretty impressive. He’s tied for first in Bucs history with three division titles, and he’s looking to capture the team record if he can lead the way to Tampa Bay’s fifth straight NFC South crown (and fourth under him).

Bowles’ .529 winning percentage is the third-best in franchise history entering 2025.

Bowles has 27 wins through his first three years as the Bucs head coach, which has him with the fifth-most. He also has coached Tampa Bay for 51 games, which is the sixth-most in team history.
