The 2025 season kicks off Thursday night, August 28 against Boise State!
The Bucs have lost another offensive tackle heading into the 2025 season, but this one is due to retirement. The team announced on Thursday morning that they have placed offensive tackle Garret Greenfield on the Reserved/Retired list.
Greenfield played his college at South Dakota State for Jack Rabbits and signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2024 as an undrafted free agent. He spent time on two practice squad with the Seahawks and then Giants. In January of 2025 Greenfield signed on the Bucs’ practice squad and then signed a futures contract for the following season. He participated in OTAs and mini-camp, plus the first training camp practice.
Bucs Are Very Thin At Offensive Tackle
The Bucs are already missing several players due to injury and having to move around their offensive line with Tristan Wirfs missing the first couple of games of the regular season with reserve tackle Charlie Heck filling in for Wirfs. The Bucs have several offensive tackles on their training camp roster although they are inexperienced. As a result the Bucs have worked out George Fant and Chris Hubbard in recent days.
The Bucs could certainly use a veteran player like Fant and Hubbard as an insurance policy to back up Heck and and right tackle Luke Goedeke. Tampa Bay has a blue-chip developmental project in Ben Chukwuma, but he is not NFL-ready.
That also goes for international roster exemption Lorenz Metz, who doesn’t have the necessary quick feet and agility to be a starter. The other option on the roster at tackle for Tampa Bay is Raiqwon O’Neal. Silas Dzansi would also be an option but he is on the physically unable to perform list and his return date is yet to be determined.

The Bucs have gotten thin at offensive tackle to the point where Chukwuma got second-team reps on at tackle in training camp when he likely shouldn’t be at that spot yet while Charlie Heck practiced with the starters and the third team. This is probably just to get Heck as many reps as possible, but it’s evident that Tampa Bay needs another player available.
It appears the Bucs are steadfast on finding an offensive tackle that they have more confidence throwing into game situations. Fant and Hubbard look like possibilities and it wouldn’t be surprise if more get a call to make a trip to Tampa.
