The 22-year-old American is enjoying a strong campaign in both singles and doubles at this year’s ATP Masters 1000 event in Toronto. Seeded fourth, Shelton received a first-round bye before cruising past French veteran Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3.

He then staged a three-set battle against fellow American Brandon Nakashima, ultimately coming through 6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-6 (5) to reach the Round of 16 at the event for the first time.

In doubles, Shelton teamed up with Frenchman Arthur Fils, and the duo has proven formidable, knocking out Nathaniel Lammons/Jackson Withrow and eighth seeds Hugo Nys/Édouard Roger-Vasselin en route to the quarterfinals.

Shelton delivered a moment of brilliance during their second-round match in doubles. Early in the second set, with the duo down 0-30, Shelton unleashed a ferocious cross-court passing shot. The ball zipped through the narrowest of angles, clipping the corner before his opponents could even react. Fils stood frozen, mouth agape, while fans inside the Grandstand Court roared in appreciation.

Rodman, forward for the Washington Spirit in the NWSL, couldn’t contain her amazement. She shared a short video of the shot on her Instagram stories with a caption: “Guys….😲”
