Castle Rock, Colo. (KDVR) – Every morning, Tom Carnen wakes up and examines his cameras to know the types of wildlife that came at night.
He says he is used to seeing things like deer, but he was surprised to see the bears on the sidewalk just meters away from his front door.
“It is a kind of creeping because you really don’t know where they are or where they go. I hate to run in the middle of the night.”
Over the past 11 years, Karnaan has lived at his home in Castle Rock. Only over the past three years it has cameras outside his home.
“It is extremely exciting to see and see what is going on at night. You never realize until you look at the camera the next day and see all the different animals that came,” Carnehan said.
Kara Van Hoss with Parko Parks and wildlife says that seeing the bears in your area should be worrying.
“We do not want the bears to come back and begin to equate people with food because when they do so, they become the most comfortable around us, and they lose their natural fear of humans, when we start seeing conflicts,” said Van Hous.
Van Hoose added that the bears can be aggressive, especially around the cubs, so it is better to be familiar and staying awake at all times. Something says Karenhan will move forward.
“I was shocked because I did not see a bear within eight months or so, and I saw them in the front annihilation, yes, it is a little frightening,” Karenhan said.
Van Hoose says to prepare for the bears, maintain your trash, and bring bird nutrients inward, and if you see a bear, do your best to make a lot of noise by screaming or using utensils and pans for their eagerness.
