(Crohn) – Patrick McConnell is trained for three months to walk from Ocean San Francisco beach to barefoot Santa Cruz. He says every step will help collect money for immigrants detained on the border.
“Many of these children flee violence, trafficking, and unimaginable hardships at home, then they are offset by a system that treats them like adults,” McConnell says.
McConnell says he participated with the young center for the rights of migrant children – an organization that provides children with children to help give these children a voice in court and reunite them with their families.
“Ensure that when children pass through these measures that feel safe, their safety is considered as it is released from the detainee,” says Oneida Vargas Molina, who supervises children’s projects at the young center.
McConnell works to collect online donations and post Instagram videos, which shows how the trip training was. He says the first time he is released on foot, he made it just one mile – but now up to 13 years.
“Trying to make it continues for several consecutive days is a different story, and it is what I will do to actually walk,” says McConnell. But it is very painful. I would like to say that my feet have definitely tightened. I definitely scrape them every time. It is not always a beautiful scene, but I will provide you with details. “
McConnell says he believes it will take six days to complete a 100 -mile trip, and he knows it will not be an easy achievement.
“My main occupy is to steal the glass, and they step on anything that can finish walking,” says McConnell. “I will walk on the 1st highway. There is no clear path. There is no clear walking path throughout the road. I will be on the side of the road. Most of the time there will be a shoulder, but there are some parts that do not really have a shoulder and this is what I feel more anxious than that.”
It has already raised more than $ 12,000, with the goal of getting $ 50,000.
“Every thousand dollars helps in supporting 26 children with an advocate of a child in court and in life. I know that it will lead to an amazing reason. So any amount can be raised better than nothing, so I am grateful for that.”
