BART reports drop in violent crimes, fare evasion citations remain steady

SANA Francisco (Kron) – Bay Area Rapid Transit promoted the latest report published on Tuesday, which shows a general decrease on an annual basis in violent crimes as well as property crimes.

The numbers mentioned in the Bart Police Department report in July 2025 showed violent crimes on the transportation system, including killing, rape, theft and strict assault, decreased from a total of 203 in the first seven months from 2024 to 130 in the first seven months of this year. The robberies have decreased significantly from 126 to 37 years on an annual basis, according to the report. The strict attacks rose from 73 to 92.

The report stated that the total property crimes against Bart, which include robbery, theft, car theft and intentional burning, have decreased from 1091 to the first seven months from 2024 to 547 this year. Theft theft decreased from 780 to 391 years on an annual basis, Bart PD data showed, and car theft fell from 295 to 143. Demanding burning is the property crime category that rose from 0 to 3.

Although Bart is offering the majority of the next generation gates across its stations, the July 2025 report shows that the censorship of evasion did not witness a dramatic decrease over the past year. In the past six months ending in July 2025, there have been 212 quotes from fare evading monthly. In a period of six months before that, there were 202 quotes on average per month.
