KDVR – mid -term elections for 2026 are still more than a year, but people are already preparing for them. Several polling initiatives were presented in the hope of bringing it to the voters next year.
Some of the state’s major business groups say it is time for Colorado to do something about their rugged ways. They are looking into a proposal that would devote more money to solve the problem.
“We have supported us Senate Bill 260 Again in 2021 because it was the best available deal; We can get some money in our highway system. “We have not passed in a worse condition if we did not click on the Senate Bill 260 in 2021, but we are looking for over the past three years, it was not enough,” said Tony Milo, CEO of the Contractors Association at Colorado.
Senate Bill 21-260 The law became in 2021 and entered into force next year. This law introduced new fees on gas, diesel, electric cars, retail delivery and horse riding from Rideshare applications in an attempt to enhance the funding of dilapidated government infrastructure, including, but not limited to roads and bridges.
The new proposal that was presented to the 2026 polling initiative is looking to ensure that these fees are heading towards road improvements instead of general infrastructure needs and crossing. Groups such as the Colorado Contractors Commerce Chamber of Commerce supported the draft law to become a law, but they say they want to see more money that will go to government roads.
“What [initiative] 126 Does he say that the current highway use fees: all fees are really related to the use of the highway, instead of gas fees, diesel fees, Amazon delivery fees, and stock riding fees, in addition to two -thirds of the state sales tax on car purchases, will be allocated for road maintenance, bridges, expansion and construction.
A procedure was also provided to ensure all funds from state sales, use, inheritable taxes, fees, and two -thirds of sales taxes from vehicle parts and accessories. Another initiative provided to allow cities and provinces to reach some funding.
“This money will go to the highway user tax fund, which is distributed between CDOT, local provinces and cities, so that provinces and cities get a share of this financing to repair local roads,” Milo said.
Three initiatives were presented on this topic, with the aim of obtaining one of them to vote so that the voters would look at it. The question will be the constitutional amendment, it needs 55 % approval for voters to pass it. Voters will be seen in 2026.
