Austin (KXAN) – educational areas throughout the state were forced to make changes and reduce the number of deficits in the face budget, and the independent Austin School area is not alien to these cuts.
The general boycott will start with a budget deficit more than $ 19 million in the general fund. The general fund helps to cover the salaries of teachers and daily operational expenses.
Over the past few months, many positions, programs and contracts have been reduced to reduce the deficit of $ 120 million that they initially faced.
On Wednesday, the province met with the support of the Austin Ed Fund, the Congress member Lloyd Dujet and mayor Kirk Watson at Marshall Intermediate School, where they started the “Austin Esid” campaign.
The goal of the campaign is to celebrate and enhance public education by inspiring work.
The boycott urges community members to donate money and volunteer and exchange stories about how ISD affects their lives.
“This is an opportunity for our community to express support for our students and teachers who appear every day and really work, very difficult with a lot of passion,” said Michel Walis with the Austin Ed Fund.
Uncertainty
AISD said she would get $ 9 million in federal financing that was previously running, according to a letter sent by the supervisor of the ISD Matias Segura.
The boycott is expected to receive funding on July 1, before the delay. In the letter, Sigura said the federal government is committed to issuing funds on July 25.
AISD said the money will help in continuing to support positions and employees throughout the region, including multi -language support and post -school programs. However, the boycott said there are still changes.
“Although this news provides stability in the short term, it also requires us to carefully plan for the future, as we expect possible financing discounts in the coming years,” Sigura said.
The province said it would eliminate positions at the end of the fall semester in anticipation of future financing losses.
“These decisions are not taken lightly,” Sigura said.
AISD said that 9 million dollars in financing will allow multi -language education, ACE Austin enrichment programs and thirsty programs to continue.
