Austin-The Austin Independent School area agreed to its budget 2025-2026 on Thursday night.
The bidding of $ 1.58 billion includes more than $ 715 million of recovery, which will go to the state.
Despite discounts and cost saving measures, in addition to about 9 million dollars that the boycott expects to obtain from the state, the boycott expects to close the budget of 2025-2026 with a deficit of more than $ 40 million.
The year will also start with a budget deficit more than $ 19 million in the general fund.
The General Fund helps pay the salaries of teachers and daily operations.
Discussions continue to how to save money with the closing of schools and uniforms currently being discussed.
In June, more than 170 employees of the AISD Central Office employees were demobilized.
“I realize that this is a very difficult time for our community and I encourage every student, employee and family members in Austin to move with this with sympathy,” said Sigura. “This restructuring is only one step in a series of difficult conversations and decisions that must be taken to ensure that our area remains stable and we can maintain our ability to provide the highest educational quality.”
Along with employee discounts, the AISD Council discussed the unification of schools in order to achieve a balance between their budget. Sigura said the cuts were “critical step” before school was integrated.
“The effect of restructuring and everyone affected will feel,” he said.
