Austin (KXAN)-Can Austin VI open to traffic in two directions?
The city of Austin highlighted the possibility in the Friday note. A spokesman for Jack Flageler said the city’s goal is to make the sixth street a safer and more associated part than the city center.
The memo included an analysis of the Sixth Street, if it would become two ways between Brazus Street and IH-35, in addition to “PER Sixth Engineering Report (PER).”
The city began primary engineering to understand the right restrictions, underground facilities, and to identify future elements-such as sidewalks, cycling and parking.
Flageler said that in the sixth place in a two -way street is one piece of the main transportation plan, which is “a long -term vision to improve transportation and transportation options throughout the center of Austin.”
However, the city still collects reactions.
“After considering recommendations from the city’s and commissions paintings in the Spring of 2025 and reviewing the observations of the stakeholders that were received in the law plan, the employees will complete an analysis of the two-way conversion option between Brazos and I-35 Street, which also includes an analysis of many alternatives in one direction,” Flagler pointed out. “
The results of this analysis are expected to be released in late August 2025.
East Fifth Street Street, from Brazos Street to I-35, was converted into two-way traffic in 2017 after the Street Street closed to accommodate the Capmetro Downtown Station.
