Ashton Jeanty is widely projected as a top-10 pick amongst fans and NFL Draft experts. He continues to draw favorable comparisons to many superstar backs, but he made it known that getting compared to this perennial Pro Bowler was the highest honor.
Ashton Jeanty Selects His Favorite NFL Comparison
As he awaits hearing his name called in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, former Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is making the media rounds.
On April 15, during an appearance on the “Up and Adams” show, he revealed his favorite NFL comparison — and it might surprise some:
“I’ve gotten all types of comparisons. I like the Alvin Kamara comparison best out of all of them. I think that the contact balance and being able to catch the ball out of the backfield, be a receiver. I do think I am a bit more of a powerful runner. I just feel like our running style is really similar.”
Does the Alvin Kamara Comparison Fit?
For the most part, Jeanty’s self-assessment holds up. He was heavily involved in the passing game at Boise State, hauling in 80 receptions for 862 yards and six receiving touchdowns.
Stylistically, though, the two differ slightly. Kamara runs with a longer stride, almost gliding downfield — his speed deceptive because of how smooth he looks. Jeanty, on the other hand, runs with shorter, more violent strides. He’s compact, and his power is evident in how he finishes runs.
Kamara, despite a similar frame to the 2024 Heisman Trophy runner-up, tends to evade rather than engage contact. Jeanty embraces it.
What the NFL Draft Experts Are Saying About Jeanty
PFSN’s Brentley Weissman offered this scouting report on Jeanty:
“Jeanty offsets his average size with outstanding speed, burst, and vision. Jeanty is a short running back but has a dense build with a sturdy lower body. While not possessing imposing size, Jeanty has rare contact balance and can easily bounce off would-be tacklers without losing speed or balance.
“He is a physical runner who flashes a strong stiff arm, and it often takes multiple tacklers to bring him down. In short, Jeanty is a player who defensive coordinators preach about gang tackling all week, considering his ability to break through tacklers late in the down for extra yards.”
In less than a week, Ashton Jeanty will stop being compared to others and start forging his own path. The moment he lifts the jersey of his new team, his focus will shift to building a career that others will eventually be measured against.
