Arrests made in deadly shooting of man, 67, in Orange County

Two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 67-year-old man in Orange County last month.

In a news release, officials with the Garden Grove Police Department said the gun violence occurred on September 21 around 4 p.m. in the 12600 block of Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove.

Officers, responding to a report of a man suffering from gunshot wounds, discovered that Mario Barrios had been shot several times in the upper body. He was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds and was declared dead.

At the time, investigators did not have a suspect description and were asking for the public’s help in locating the person or persons responsible for the fatal encounter.

Investigators continued to work on leads related to the incident and announced that two suspects, Garden Grove resident Rodolfo Ramirez, 37, and Gustavo Covarrubias, 51, of Santa Ana, were arrested on October 14.

The motive behind the fatal shooting has not been determined, and police have not said whether the three men knew each other.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this investigation,” Garden Grove officials said.

Both men were booked into the Orange County Jail.
