Arrest made in hit-and-run crash that killed 16-year-old: 'We need to protect our children'

Aurora, Colorado (KDVR)-My mother Aurora was saddened by her 16-year-old son, who was injured and killed while riding on his electric bike late Friday evening.

The suspect escaped from the scene, but the Aurora Police Administration said that Devon Gavon James Jackson, 19, was arrested on Saturday evening after the police requested assistance.

It is said that the son of Tasha Hill, Dimitri, was riding in the bicycle lane – in the wake of the road bases – when he was wounded on the crowded Ourora Street in East Wesley Drive and South Donkirk Street. Hill said that her son was riding home from a friend’s house for his electronic studies when he was killed.

In the past few days, I called a nightmare.

“No one should look at these pictures sadly,” said Hill.

16 photos, one for every year of her son’s life, which will soon lined east of Wesley Drive in Aurora. Hill Dimitri described as a loving boy, who can always light up a room.

“When he went to a room, you could only love him,” Hill remembered. “His light was so bright that he was infectious.”

On Saturday, he was heading home from his friend’s house, who Hill said that her son was almost every day. This is when a car was hit from the back. When the police arrived at the scene, Dimitri was aware and was transferred to a local hospital, but his condition “decreased quickly”, according to the Aurora Police Administration, and he died shortly after his arrival at the hospital.

Hill said: “It is horrific and blessed at the same time.” “It is horrific because we are going through this, but the blessed that we have this amazing society. I have touched a lot of hearts and many people grieve with us.”

Despite the arrest of the death of her son, Hill has a message to society.

“We need to protect our children and we need to teach them to be good people,” she said. “And most importantly, as neighbors, we have the responsibility to maintain our streets safe.”

The family now picks up the pieces – take the funeral arrangements and try to overcome the tragedy. Gofundment to help support The family during this time is available here.
