ASAN (KXAN) – On Thursday, the first meeting of the members of the Austin City Council while spending their summer vacation, but on the horizon says that the city’s employees say it will be more strict than any of the current members of the Council in their periods so far.

“We are dealing with a council, as it was most likely to be eight years in excess … in a good position where they had a surplus habit, and now we are in a place completely the opposite.”

The city’s employees are expected to issue their budget proposal in July. The offices of the council will host the city’s budget halls and collect public inputs, and then the council is scheduled to operate through amendments and vote on the budget in August.

This budget enters into force in the coming fiscal year, starting from October 1, 2025.

City employees have already warned the city council members that Austin is facing many financial challenges, including the depletion of relief financing from the epidemic (US Rescue Plan), and tackling federal discounts and sees a decrease in sales tax revenues that the city relies heavily now after the state has set a property tax.

Last year, the city adopted a $ 5.9 billion budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025. The owner of Austin’s model house witnessed an increase of $ 15.67 per month, or $ 188.02 annually, in the city part of the annual property tax bill as a result, the city said when this budget was adopted.

The proposed change will also be issued to the tax rate for the fiscal year 2025-2026 in July, when the city produces its budget project.

“I think it will be really useful for us to think hard about what you expect, what do you want from your city, then what will cost him and are you ready to pay for it?” He said.
