Aquifers close to Stage IV Exceptional Drought

ASAN – Barton Springs – Edwards for preservation of the groundwater layer recently for the 34th month, in a row of dehydration conditions for Edwards and Edwards and Tinetti the groundwater layer. When falling into the third stage of the critical drought in November 2024, the ongoing drought conditions have seen Loverlady seriously monitored close to drought in the fourth stage.

Hilafati tea has recently spoke with the Parton Springs, Edwards Akovir, with a protected meteorological specialist, Freddy Villa, about the current state of the groundwater plane and what will happen in the event of continued dehydration conditions.

Freddy Villa: Meteorological World:How does dehydration conditions affect our groundwater layers?

Hilafarti tea:Drought has a great effect. Here in the region, we were at a level of constant drought for 34 months – only shy of three years. I have been affected by our groundwater layers. We honor the parts of the Edwards and Tinetti groundwater layer, and the water levels are currently very low in both. We see this in the lower groundwater levels and in low spring flows in places like Barton Springs. Although Yaqoub’s well is not in our area, it is connected to the Tinity water layer and was not swimming for years.

villa: How much rain do we need to return to normal?

HLAVARTY: This is a great question. I wish I had a simple answer, such as a specific number of faults, but it is more complicated than that. Since January 2022, we had about 35 inches in rain deficit. To put it in the right perspective, the average Austin area is about 34.2 inches annually, so we are mainly missing for a full year rain.

However, if we get 35 inches of rain tomorrow, it will not necessarily finish dehydration. Several important factors: amount From rain, of course, but also intensity– Slower rain, better because it has time to indulge, while heavy rains tend to escape. timing It is also a key – it helps if the rain is spread over weeks or months. Finally, location Things. We have been in the east of I-35, which is good, but this does not help our groundwater layers. We need rain on our recharge areas-West I-35, in areas such as South Austin, Boda, Kyle and Fandan Contre.

villa: Recently, it has been announced that the groundwater layers in the third stage of critical drought. What does that mean?

HLAVARTY: The boycott was in the third stage of cash drought since October last year. For us, this means that organizations and municipalities with water permits from the province should reduce their use of water by at least 30 %, and in some cases, depending on the permit.

This is important for cities such as Buda, Kyle and others that depend on this water. If they exceed their permissible use, they may face fines. So stage 3 means significant cuts in the use of water and severe consequences if these cuts are not followed.
