Antioch residents warn against door-to-door tap water scam

(Kron) – Antioch officials said that the fraudsters reduce the population by appearing on the threshold of their door and claiming to be employees in the city who need to test water quality.

According to officials, individuals go to the door to the door “they claim that the tap water in the city is unsafe in an attempt to sell high -cost water filter systems.”

One of the homeowners recently reported that the deception was presented as a result of a fake water test that shows “13 pre -cancer polluted” before trying to pressure them in purchasing the reverse osmosis system. Then he became “aggressive” when the resident did not deliver personal information.

“These individuals are not associated with the city of Antioch, or our Ministry of Water,” said Evona Kagin from the water treatment plant in Antioch. “The tap water is tightly organized by the American Environmental Protection Agency. We want to reassure the residents that drinking water in Antioch meet or exceed all federal and state requirements. If your water becomes unsafe for drinking, the city of Antich will inform you and provide information about how to protect yourself.”

Kagin also reminded the residents that the real City staff will schedule a home visits in advance, and they never appear without announcing and always providing an appropriate specifically.

Antioch residents are urged to take into account these safety guidelines in mind:

  • Do not allow individuals not verified in your home.
  • Always ask for the official identity.
  • Look for a noticeable Antioch badge.
  • Call the water department on (925) 779-7060 to confirm whether someone is an employee in the city.
  • Reporting aggressive or suspicious activity of the Antioch Police Department.

City officials encourage residents to verify the state of drinking water in Antioch in the annual Consumer confidence report.
