Although the Belarusian responded with a 6-4 win in the second set, Anisimova regained her composure in the decider and closed the match with another 6-4 victory.
Notably, this marked Anisimova’s sixth career win over a top 5 opponent, and her first against a reigning World No. 1. The American, who holds an impressive 12-2 record on grass this season, now leads Sabalenka 6-3 in their head-to-head.
As noted, Anisimova’s family proved to be a crucial pillar of support for her at Wimbledon. After her quarterfinal victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the American charmed the crowd by introducing her adorable nephew Jackson, revealing that he would be turning four on Thursday, Jul. 10.

With her win over Sabalenka, Anisimova became the only player in the Open Era after Bianca Andreescu to reach a Grand Slam final just a year after losing in the qualifying rounds of the previous edition.

Speaking after the match, Anisimova expressed her eagerness to spend time with her family, who had come to support her in her pursuit of a first Major title. She explained that she hadn’t seen them earlier, as she needed to rest ahead of her semifinal clash.
“Hopefully, I can finally spend some time with my family. I mean, I haven’t had a chance to yet because I knew today was going to be so important, and I was trying to rest as much as possible yesterday, but I think it’s still relatively early. So, I mean, I will make some time for you guys,” she said during her on-court interview post-match.
