HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — SH-146 after closing Texas Avenue for several hours Wednesday after a truck with a mechanical problem began smoking, HCSO officials said.

According to a Baytown city official, a tanker truck carrying a type of gas experienced a mechanical failure and had to stop sometime after 1 p.m. They added that a hazardous materials crew responded to the scene and all lanes of the highway were expected to be closed for several hours.

A Baytown city official said aerial surveillance of the area was in place and no evacuations were needed.

Baytown officials urged drivers to use alternate routes as there was no estimated time for the highway to reopen.
