Alex Pereira Has a Laugh About His Sons’ Seemingly Grumpy Mood Following His Arrival From a Trip

Many fans and experts alike hail Alex Pereira as one of the UFC’s most popular fighters, having established himself as a notable box office draw in the sport of MMA. His supporters often assert that “Poatan” managed to achieve superstardom not only because of his incredible fighting prowess but also due to his unique deadpan sense of humor.

Pereira is known for his stoicism and hard-to-read poker face in his fights and most other social interactions. But in recent years, he has opened up a little more and often showcases the funnier side of his personality.

On that note, the Brazilian combat sports great has shared a hilarious photograph and message about his sons’ seemingly grumpy mood after he returned from a recent trip.

Certain sections of the MMA community have time and again drawn parallels between Pereira’s signature stoic facial expression and the look of the Moai statues of Easter Island in Eastern Polynesia. Pereira’s stone-faced expression has served as the source of inspiration for many memes created by fight fans.

To his credit, “Poatan” has shown that he’s well aware of the running joke and has contributed to it by using the stone-faced statue emojis in his social media posts and by jesting about his stoic expressions. His sons, Alessandro Vidal Silva and Lohan Vidal Silva, have now seemingly followed in their father’s footsteps and displayed their own iterations of the stone-faced stoic facial expression.

In a recent Instagram Stories post, Pereira shared a photo of himself with his sons, who appeared to be in a rather grumpy mood. Lightheartedly alluding to the same, Pereira also put forth a written statement in the Brazilian-Portuguese language, a rough translation of which read: “I just arrived from a trip and look at their joy.”

Pereira’s Recent Defeat, Quest To Reclaim UFC Gold

Pereira is a former Glory kickboxing Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Champion, who subsequently became a UFC Middleweight and Light Heavyweight Champion. As of this writing, the Brazilian knockout artist is on a quest to once again secure UFC gold. His most recent Octagon appearance witnessed him lose the UFC light heavyweight title via unanimous decision to Magomed Ankalaev in March 2025.

UFC CEO Dana White later indicated that the promotion is likely to book an immediate title rematch between the two bitter rivals. Nevertheless, the much-awaited potential rematch between Pereira and Ankalaev hasn’t been officially announced by the UFC.

Earlier this year, Ankalaev claimed that Pereira was offered the rematch that was supposedly set to transpire during the UFC’s International Fight Week event in late June 2025. The Dagestani fighter accused “Poatan” of turning down the offer.

Furthermore, Ariel Helwani eventually reported that the matchup didn’t materialize because that particular timeline wasn’t feasible for Pereira.
