AI data centers could drive a new wave of Texas air pollution, report finds

The report finds that prosperity in artificial intelligence (AI) risks the filling of Texas for toxins.

Government organizers are studying proposals for more than 100 new gas energy projects – the vast majority of them are completely new factories – to operate a new wave of data centersResultsEarly published on Wednesday by the Environmental Integrity Project (EIP).

EIP said that more than 30 had already been allowed in a “rubber seal” process.

“To meet her increasing demand for electricity, Texas must encourage more clean energy instead of feeding the general benefits of dirty fossil fuel,” Jin Dogan, Executive Director of the Environmental Integrity Project, said in a statement.

Plants spread throughout the state but gather around Houston, the I-35 Corridor between Austin and San Antonio and oil fields in West Texas.

If all of them are built, they can produce the most pollution every year such as 27 million cars and other trucks – equivalent to doubling the current car fleet in Texas.

Oil and gas pollutionIt includesThe volatile organic cancer such as gasoline, compounds that cause asthma including ozone, nitrogen oxides and lung molecules such as PM 2.5.

The Texas Environment Committee, the environmental organization of the state, rejected the hill to comment on the analysis.

The report comes in the wake ofList bills failedIn the Legislative Commission in Texas, which sought to restrict the growth of renewable energy sources in favor of the gas force – a case that ledA busy discussion between the partiesInside the ruling Republican Party of the state.

One of the main reasons for this failure: the urgent demand for the state on electricity, which was estimated by the managers of the state networksIt can doubleBy the end of the contract, this is largely due to the workers of cryptocurrencies, data centers and oil field operations.

In the battle around renewable restrictions, wind defenders, solar energy and battery – which can be installed much faster than gas – as an ideal for this demand.

“Everything is supposed to be larger in Texas, but there is no need to move to a large extent with the pollution of the gas factory when there are more clean alternatives,” Adrian Shelli, Texas Director of the Civil Society Group told the Civil Group.

“Texas is already the number one in clean energy, which helps to save the electrical network and reduce the costs of the consumer, so we must rely on clean energy to increase our supply of electricity,” she added.

But with a “feverish race” to build a capacity of long waiting times to connect to the network, the developers of the data center are increasingly turning into a new wave of private owned gas plants, according toReportingThis week from Texas Tribune.

One of these plants, outside New Brunphels in the growing center of Texas quickly, will generate about 1.2 GB of strength-about two-thirds of generations’ ability as much as it is required for people more than a million people from the nearby Austin.

But all this power will go entirely to data centers.

Despite the size of plants-some are large enough to operate a medium-sized city-EIP claims that Texas organizers are incorrectly classified by three of them as belonging to a clean law category designed for slight sources of pollution.

This means that gas factories will not have to use the best technologies available to clean their emissions, causing chemicals to be linked to health.
