Aaron Rodgers’ next chapter after his Green Bay Packers days is set. After months of speculation about his 2025 destination, the quarterback signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
That move took one of the top remaining free agents off the board, but the Steelers landed their guy. One of Rodgers’ former teammates had high praise for the move.
Aaron Rodgers’ Former Teammate Revives Hope of QB’s Resurgence
Speaking on the June 6 episode of “The Facility,” former Packers wide receiver James Jones said Rodgers’ new coach should be thrilled with how things turned out.

“Coach Tomlin should have a smile on his face this morning, because now your team has a chance to compete,” Jones said. “A couple of days ago, your team did not have a chance to compete, but Aaron Rodgers walking into that building, instantly, you are a playoff team. You are going to get into the playoffs. And whatever may happen in those playoffs may happen, but I believe Aaron Rodgers still has a lot of good football left in him.”
Rodgers is coming off a season where he threw for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He finished 21st in PFSN’s QB+ metrics and came close to hitting 4,000 passing yards.
Rodgers’ Contract Signifies Steelers’ Level of Interest Going Forward
Rodgers has signed on the dotted line, and the months-long wait to find out where he’d land is finally over. Still, his arrival brings up new questions about his future with the team and whether Mike Tomlin’s squad is truly all-in.
Their financial commitment says a lot. According to Spotrac, Rodgers will play on a one-year, $13.65 million deal with $10 million guaranteed. That’s enough to get him in the door, but it doesn’t promise anything long-term.
The Steelers can release him with minimal penalty, so it’s on Rodgers to prove he’s worth an extension during the season.
Otherwise, he’ll be back on the market next spring. At 41, heading into what would be his age 42 season, nothing is promised — not his performance or his NFL future.

That said, Rodgers may just want to end his career the right way. After going 5-12 with the New York Jets, getting back over .500 with Tomlin, who has never had a losing season, might be Rodgers’ final mission.
Either way, the quarterback has every reason to go all out in 2025. This might be his last ride.
