Jefferson Province, Colorado (KDVR) – Tercy Dorland, the supervisor of Jefferson County Schools, received a vote for any confidence by the Teachers Union during a Thursday night meeting.
Dorland was in this position since April 2021, but last night, the Jefferson Public School Teachers Union said they were not pleased with the general direction in which the province is moving.
In a letter to the provincial board of directors on their website, the council of the representative of the Jefferson County Society and the Employment Council said that the confidence vote was a necessary step.
The message said that under Durland’s leadership, there is a separation between administration, education and families, and that its leadership has exacerbated tensions and caused damage to the boycott with employees and society.
The message identified three reasons for voting:
- Ignore the joint leadership and our society
- Lack of transparency and accountability
- Not to address urgent conditions in schools
Dorland Fox 31 sent a statement of a vote, not confidence, below:
Acknowledged the concerns raised by the JCEA board and the representative council. I have read the message while I was thinking about reactions. Acknowledged the need to build confidence with the Teacher Association.
I also want to be clear that I am standing alongside the great progress that we have made over the past four years – including increasing teacher compensation and implementing a bold strategic plan based on educational excellence and unusual student experiences. We have achieved results for Jeffco students by improving academic results and student experiences. We have implemented high -quality curriculum at the boycott level, increased students’ achievement, and reduces discipline accidents through a more consistent approach and focuses on shares in behavior and support.
I know that confidence is built through the original participation and consistent work. I listen – and I will continue to listen – for all teachers, families, students and members of society. As a supervisor, I represent the entire Jeffco community, and it is my duty to weigh multiple views and make decisions in service to all students. This often means making difficult choices, but I have always and I will always lead them with students at the center.
I am still strongly committed to Gifco in a way that provides stable leadership, supports students, our workforce values, and honor all our stakeholders. While we need to listen and cooperate in important issues facing our region, we cannot allow our boycott to paralyze and stagnate. Our students need brave and brave leaders ready to work through our diverse society to achieve improvements in our students ’experiences; I am the leader.
I still believe in the promise of public education, the dedication of our workforce, and in our joint responsibility to provide every student in Givco with unusual opportunities for learning, growth, prosperity and achieving their greatest dreams.
Terry Durland, Director of Giveco Schools
