Denver City Council to vote on agreement for National Women's Soccer League stadium

Denver (KDVR) – Denver City Council is preparing to vote on an international government agreement that supports a project that only another city in the United States: a new stadium for the National Women’s Football League.

If the international government agreement is concluded, Denver will be home to the second football stadium in America for women’s sports, with the first place in Kansas City. Many people are concerned that the project financing at the present time is not the right step.

“This, as you know, an incredibly unique opportunity to convert a truly uncompromising site that was sitting there for years waiting for the right project, said Jeff, chief strategy official at the mayor’s office.”

The office of the mayor of Denver and the owners of the National Football Team for National Women, which has not been called the members of the City Council, urges to agree to the agreement, which will include the city, the province, and the Broadway Station Station area. The stadium will be located in the Santa -in squares, in the heart of the city center.

If it is passed, the agreement will allow the city to own the land to the proposed stadium, allowing the city to re -display the designated area for the stadium if the team does not succeed or move.

At the present time, the cost of the stadium project is estimated at a cost of between $ 400 and 500 million dollars, with an estimated 70 million dollar part. But is this investment made in a fun time?

“I think 30-40 years ago, cities were very prepared to finance these types of projects,” Darine Duber Smith, a professor at the University of Metropolitan State Denver, told Fox31 from Gabriel Franklin. “70 million dollars is not 4 billion dollars, which is actually costing some of these stadiums, and some of these football fields, so no, you do not talk about Taj Mahal here. But for the city, $ 70 million is a lot of money. These cities are, can I say, because they were shattered.”

City money will be made towards capital improvements and infrastructure surrounding the stadium.

Many in the state and the Denver Metro area are interested in the next team to the area. Denver fans broke the NWSL record by selling 10,000 seasonal tickets in less than two months.

Denver’s mayor’s office says the stadium can generate an economic impact from 1.4 to $ 2.2 billion on the city for 30 years, but some are concerned about the low investment return.

“There are many reasons for not doing something like this,” said Dubbur Smith. “The only reason for doing this is that we may not get women’s football in Denver. This is the only way that these entities are trying to sell when doing this in other cities. Most other cities have rejected these types of things because most other cities are worse than we are here.”

In April, the City Council committee approved the plan unanimously, and if it passed on Monday night, supporters say they will make an official request for the stadium project this fall.
