On a recent episode of The Herd, FS1 analyst Colin Cowherd floated a surprising theory tying former NFL coach Bill Belichick’s relationship with Jordon Hudson to a bigger effort to rebrand his public image. According to Cowherd, Belichick’s recent moves — from coaching in college to popping up on television — are all part of a calculated strategy.

Cowherd kicked things off by questioning Belichick’s fit at the college level.
“From day one, Belichick to me on a college campus never made sense,” he said, pointing to the coach’s rough draft record and general indifference toward college football, despite his father’s legacy. “He didn’t pay a lot of attention to college football. You could tell from his drafts, he had no feel for it.”

Cowherd stressed that Belichick has always been a pro football guy.
“Belichick then hires Mike Lombardi, who I know, at North Carolina. These are NFL guys first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. They don’t care about being part of a university’s athletic department. They can fake it. They can go to a basketball game.”
According to Cowherd, all these moves point to a bigger personal transformation.
“What I would argue in all of this is Belichick is rebranding himself. Young girlfriend, college campus, young recruits — he’s staying current. I’m surprised he didn’t go to Coachella.”

Belichick’s relationship with Hudson has drawn significant attention, especially after Hudson offered a poised defense of their privacy during a CBS interview.
“He’s 70-plus, she’s 24,” Cowherd said. “Then, I watched this CBS interview, which she stepped in front of like a professional and said, ‘You’re not talking about our private relationship.’”
Cohwerd added that the relationship might benefit both sides. “Skeletons are starting to be unearthed,” he said, referencing a New York Post report that detailed the financial side of the connection. “It does appear now that I’ll have a third opinion, which is they are both benefiting in multiple ways from each other. It’s gone from cringey to crucial to crypto.”
Cowherd also pointed out Belichick’s recent media-friendly shift. “He went on ESPN and laughed and smiled a lot. He found a young girlfriend. He’s on a young college campus. He’s doing TikTok, and Snapgram, and Instachat, and all that stuff he used to make fun of.”
The analyst wrapped it all up by hinting that Belichick’s stay at North Carolina might not last long.
“Even if you look at his contract at Carolina, the out is after a year. So I’m not blaming Bill … wanting to use Carolina to get back to the NFL. I think that’s his real dream.”
