The Mexican government and the Florida Caribian Society of Maritime Trips have reached a compromise this week to implement the tariff for visitors.
FCCA represents 95 % of cruise ships that make call outlets in Mexico.
Six months ago, the Mexican government wanted to create a $ 42 tariff for each passenger.
After complaints from the operators of the cruise ships and FCCA, the fees were negotiated.
Over the next three years, the fees will increase to $ 21 per passenger.
It will be added to the cost of a cruise, visitors will not pay the fees directly to the Mexican government.
“We are grateful to the federal government in Mexico to cooperate with us to reach an agreement on transportation fees that protect the tourism ships of the increasing trips of local societies that depend on their livelihoods on this,” read FCCA statement.
According to FCCA, about 3,300 tourist ships are expected to stop in Mexican ports this year, bringing with them 10 million passengers.
