Has The Equalizer Been Renewed for Season 6? Everything We Know

Fans are hopeful The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah, will be greenlit for season 6. Closer rounds up everything we know about the show’s potential return.

Has ‘The Equalizer’ Been Renewed for Season 6?

CBS has not yet confirmed if the show will be back for a sixth season, making it the only remaining scripted pilot or series on the network without an official update regarding its fate.

There is, however, speculation that if the show is picked up for another round viewers can look forward to a 13-episode sixth and final season amid ongoing discussions with producing studio Universal Television, according to Deadline.

Queen Latifah has apparently taken extra steps to seal the deal, reportedly agreeing to concessions that could help the series’ renewal odds.

CBS Decided Not to Proceed With ‘The Equalizer’ Spinoff

The network considered a proposed Equalizer spinoff starring Titus Welliver and Juani Feliz, but ultimately determined that it would not move forward with the TV crime drama. Both stars appeared on the April 20 episode of the mothership series.

Titus portrayed former top CIA operative Hudson Reed, who was concealing “a dark secret” and is connected to Robyn McCall (Queen Latifah) “by an old mentor.”

Juani captivated audiences as Samantha Reed, a woman “trained by her father to be a weapons expert,” as well as a “skilled martial artist and true chameleon all while hiding a mysterious past.”

Prior to the spinoff development, The Equalizer was in talks to join other multi-series drama franchises airing on CBS such as NCIS, FBI and Fire Country.

A Blue Bloods spinoff following Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan has also secured a spot on CBS. Boston Blue, its working title, comes from S.W.A.T. writers Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis and will feature Raegan in a new position, where he will join forces with “the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

What Is ‘The Equalizer’ About?

The Equalizer is a “reimagining of the classic series in which Queen Latifah portrays an enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn,” per CBS.

It first debuted on CBS in 2021, as a reboot of the original series, which ran on CBS from September 1985 to August 1989.

Season 5 Is Still Airing and More Drama Is Underway

Fans can anticipate an action-packed last episode of season 5, set to air on May 4, 2025.

“While on a romantic getaway, McCall and Dante are abruptly ambushed by Salazar and his army; Aunt Vi finally decides to take the next step in her relationship with Captain Curtis; Dee meets with her favourite author,” according to the finale’s description.

Season 5 of the show was confirmed in April 2024, before the fourth season wrapped.

Queen Latifah previously spoke about season 4, revealing she was glad to be back and “coming out the gates firing full throttle” with “all the action you can handle” while promising to give the “people what they need.”

She told Entertainment Tonight last February that Dolly Parton is a dream guest star for the show.
