UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was last seen in action in November 2024 when he faced off against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. The event was held at the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York.
“Bones” proved himself the superior fighter that night and scored a TKO victory in the third round.
Fans React to Jon Jones’ Post on Instagram
Since before Jones’ victory over Miocic, MMA fans have demanded a clash between the current heavyweight king and UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall.
UFC CEO Dana White has repeatedly expressed his intention to make this fight a reality, but the promotion has yet to make an official announcement about the matchup.
Jones recently uploaded an Instagram post that seemed to be a behind-the-scenes clip from an ad shoot for an energy drink brand called Ketone IQ.
“Keep a lookout for some absolutely insane content from @ketone,” wrote Jones. “‘Bones’ is back, but this time with a whole new set of skills.”
MMA fans took notice of Jones’ post and flooded his comments section with mentions of Aspinall. Additionally, people started mentioning ducks or posting pictures of ducks, implying that the 37-year-old was ducking Aspinall. It is a joke that Aspinall himself participates in occasionally as well, by carrying around a toy duck when he attends UFC events.
“Doing everything but fighting Tom,” one fan said. Another comment read, “Bro can do anything BUT sign the contract.”
One fan reacted to the spinning back kick Jones shows off in the shooting, and said, “Now try it in the octagon with Tom 🦆”
“Please fight soon; it doesn’t even matter if it isn’t Aspinall anymore, lmao,” said another fan.
Aspinall’s last fight took place in July 2024. He went toe-to-toe against Curtis Blaydes to defend his interim belt at UFC 304. The bout was a short-lived affair as it took the British fighter just 60 seconds to knock his opponent out.
Chael Sonnen Does Not Believe That Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall Is Next
Many MMA community members believe that Aspinall vs. Jones will be next for the undisputed title. But UFC veteran Chael Sonnen believes that Aspinall’s next opponent will not be “Bones.”
“The American Gangster” claimed that Aspinall will lock horns against Ciryl Gane instead of Jones with the interim title on the line again in his next UFC outing. Sonnen reported this a day after he claimed Jones vs. Aspinall was a done deal.
“You guys probably haven’t heard this. You’re probably getting this right from me… Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane… For the interim championship,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.
