Puka Nacua Sends Bold Message to Rams Front Office About Potential Jalen Ramsey Trade

Even before future Hall of Famer Aaron Donald retired, the Rams quietly reversed their “F Them Picks” motto and started rebuilding their defense through the draft. However, after building from the inside on the defensive line and at linebacker, they are thin at the most isolated position on defense: cornerback.

As it stands, the Rams’ primary corners are Darious Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, and Cobie Durant. They are veteran, solid, and physical players, but it’s a position group that most analysts and observers feel has been overlooked from a developmental standpoint.

Even still, the Rams are considered a serious contender in the NFC, and they came within one possession of beating the Philadelphia Eagles in the snow, no less. So, a rumored reunion with Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey is making the rounds.

For his part, Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua likes the idea.

How Much of an Impact Would Jalen Ramsey Make on the Rams?

“I think somebody coming back home to Los Angeles who’s won a Super Bowl would be a great addition for the Rams,” Nacua said to RG.org about the Rams possibly bringing back Ramsey.

“His physical stature. There’s a mindset that he plays with, he has swagger, his confidence when he walks out there on the football field, knowing what he’s capable of definitely gives him an edge,” Nacua said.

“It would be really fun to work our skills against each other if he were to come over here, but whether we see him in a Rams uniform or out there, I know we’ll be getting good work.”

After being traded to Miami in 2023, Ramsey tore a meniscus in training camp and missed the season’s first seven weeks. He was activated on Oct. 28, 2023, and recorded 22 total tackles, five pass deflections, and three interceptions over 10 games to earn a Pro Bowl selection.

That earned him a three-year $72.3 million contract extension, making him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL at that time. He backed it up by starting in all 17 games, recording 60 total tackles (39 solo), 11 passes defended, two interceptions, and one sack.

He’s still considered one of the league’s top-tier corners. He’s versatile, physical, and has a high IQ, and he can play both man and zone. Defensive coordinators can deploy him outside, in the slot, or even at safety in some packages.

He’d be a welcome addition to the Rams, who have a bevy of draft choices, including two first-rounders in the 2026 NFL Draft — “for now,” as head coach Sean McVay quipped to reporters.

However, the real point of contention is not the draft capital it would require to obtain the 30-year-old Ramsey — he would likely cost a fourth- or fifth-rounder — it’s the financial commitments.

He’s under contract through 2028 with a guaranteed salary of $25.1 million in 2025 alone. The Rams have around $17.5 million in cap space, so adjustments would have to be made to Ramsey’s contract to make it work.

While the financial constraints are a high hurdle, the benefits Ramsey could bring to the Rams and a chance for him to win another Super Bowl might outweigh any financial concerns both sides may have.
